Cheat Meals!!!


Cheat meals. Now rebranded as Refill Meals, presumably so you can eat some junk and not feel guilty about it. 

For what they are worth, here are my feelings on cheat meals......

First of all why do you feel you need a cheat meal? (Actually before we tackle that question let’s be clear that for 99.999% of us it is a cheat meal and not a refill meal. A refill meal is for a pre contest bodybuilder who is seriously into a calorie deficit and the refill helps the body avoid going into starvation mode, holding fat, and even using muscle as an energy source. So, be honest with yourself, it’s a cheat meal, because you want it, not because you need it.)

So back to the first question; why do you feel you need a cheat meal? The answer is simple, because the majority, of not all, of your bodybuilding meals leave you feeling dissatisfied. Boiled (skinless)chicken, steamed broccoli and brown rice is a fantastic bodybuilding meal but eat that sort of meal a few times a day, day after day, week after week, and you will start to crave some taste!!! 

My solution is to adopt a low carb, relatively high fat, high protein diet. I literally never look at a meal I’m about to eat and feel defeated. Every meal I eat is tasty and plentiful. Therefore I don’t build up a craving for a cheat meal. I eat within my set parameters (which are remarkably wide) with (almost) total consistency. 

Mentally this is crucial. I feel that I never fail. Am never weak. Always eating to progress. No matter how you convince yourself a cheat meal makes you feel exactly that. A cheat and a fraud.
